China's New Child Policy
Summary: Due to the risks that come with overpopulation, Chinas government decided to create a regulation to allow a couple one child. The regulation has decreased in security and some are allowed to have two children; however there are problems that came along with the regulations. The issues included a drastic shrink on the population; so much so that the younger generations cannot support the older ones. This can cause economic crash due to the high amounts of older people. Furthermore, the regulation has allowed the families to decide to get abortion early in the pregnancy if the baby happens to be a girl. In China, men are valued more due to the "superiority" in the culture. However even this alone also cause multiple problems for population and human rights. Due to the unequal distribution of gender in the population; human trafficking is then encouraged to obtain a wife. Furthermore due to the shrinking population, it will not have enough people to support the work force.
Reflection: I find China's regulation both a solution and a problem. I think that it is a short term solution for the crisis that could have occurred; however there are more pressing matters as well that have surfaced and can be easily fixed with the right leadership. Due to the mentality of men having a higher value of women, the country as a whole scrambles to produce a male child in order to carry both the family name and support the elderly. However women can also provide for the family; if anything they are in demand for Chinese women due to their lack of them. With more women, the human trafficking can decrease significantly. With the rise of their status in China, it could be possible to prevent the decline of population much like what happened in Japan. I find it cruel that couples are so willing to kill a fetus due to its' gender; it is horrific that they are even considering killing the child that they have produced merely due to made up belief that men have a higher statute in the community than women. It is cruel, to the point of inhumane.
