Justin Adams is a global managing director at Nature Conservancy; he seeks awareness to a world of sustainability. He believes that people today has the ability to change the impending future that is over population and lack of resources as of 2050. People are looking at the benefits and money that they will profit from those they sell despite the harm it does to the environment and the population as a whole. It is estimated that the food resources must be doubled in order to sustain 9 billion people, additional 2 billion people in need of electricity, and raise economic growth while preventing excess CO2 emission. These are some of the problems that is posed due to over-population and reckless use of resources. The United Nations have proposed a 15 year plan called Sustainable Development Goals, that is supposed to help reduce the CO2 emission in the environment, and ultimately stop global warming. However this goal is not without obstacles, the CO2 reduction in the atmosphere threatens the economy, which is why people are so hesitant. However the U.N. reassures that the solution is simply to have better farming habits as well as using sustainable energy. The plan also suggests for protection, restoration, and development of lands for to be more sustainable.
It appears that people are making plans to improve the health of the environment, however is it enough to fix what is already damaged? The plan promises a lot, however it is unsure whether it will follow through, or simply brushed aside. The article states, "increasing economic growth and prosperity while solving poverty, disease, hunger, climate change and inequality — depends in no small part on what people do with the natural world. " The U.N. is ambitious for seeking solutions for all of these problems, yet it is undetermined if people will follow in their footsteps in developing solutions to decades long problems. These issues will not be solved in a blink of an eye, it needs to take time and determination to achieve a beneficial goal and complete cooperation of all communities and countries as well as companies. It is detrimental that the U.N. are able to convince big companies to comply with the plan, otherwise it cannot possibly be successful.
