ScrAPES Tuberculosis
Summary:
In the past couple of years it has been found that tuberculosis has ben rampant; enough to rival against HIV or AIDS. In 2014, it was found that there was only a difference of approximately 100,000 deaths between the two diseases, where TB killed 1.1 million people, HIV/AIDS extinguished 1.2 million individuals. Both are fatal to many people due to the lack of help in medical expenses as well as lack of treatment for them. Although there is significantly less people dying from TB in the past decade, it still takes approximately 1 million people annually. The most infected by the HIV/AIDS virus is in Africa due to the poverty, women sell their body in exchange to survive, and due to lack of protection and knowledge of said virus, the disease runs rampant. Funds that support research for both viruses help discover new ways to help people get better. People need to keep funding both of these research in hopes of finally getting rid or at least finding a reliable cure for them.
Reflection:
The issues that are present in world today have accumulated over centuries. I cannot help but connect this issue to Darwin's belief of "Survival of the Fittest"; I realize that modern medicine is very helpful to the human population. That without these medicine the population would drop dramatically, where a common cold can easily kill a person. However I also realize that the very reason for these dangerous viruses are due to the modern medicine. The act of evolution sped up by the medicine that are mean to neutralize the disease; the viruses that are immune to the medicine continue to reproduce in an exponential rate, whereas humans due to their slower rate of evolution, are stuck dealing with the problems of the new virus. I find it interesting how the medicine that is created to cure the people, often create consequences that leave the human population with bigger issues to deal with. We as a population is stuck in an endless cycle of trying to kill a virus only to create one that is worse, yet we cannot stand still and let those affected with the current virus die.
