A Tale of Two Worlds: Nations Collide on Climate Change
By: Raghu Murtugudde
- There are more and more studies that suggest that humans are directly correlated to the cause of climate change.
- There are still plenty of skeptics despite the several studies on global warming.
- One of the most important solutions to the ever increasing issue that is global warming is unity of different countries.
- It is suggested that the well off countries help the developing and poor ones.
- The U.N. is going to focus on the global warming issues after the year 2015.
- There are going to be regulations to limit excess CO2 emissions worldwide.
- Sustainability will start being a priority according to the U.N.
- Poverty and lack of education are big contributors to the ignorance of the developing countries.
- Less use of fossil fuels have suggested better health for the community as a whole.
The author is informing readers that unity for the Earth is crucial especially now. It seems that the U.N. will start focusing on sustainability and healthier options for the planet to emit energy. The survival of several ecosystems are reliant to the climate of their habitat, that if global warming continues, humans will be the cause of mass extinction of various species. The U.N. is hoping that the countries are willing to put their differences aside in order to save the only planet that we all call home. Developing countries lack knowledge on how detrimental global warming is t the environment; it is very possible that they are aware, but chose to ignore the impending future. It is important that the well developed countries to avoid pollution from both their country and prevent the developing to do the same.
Reflection:
It is clear that the destruction of the biosphere cannot be pointed in one single direction. All countries are responsible for the polluted land that Earth will soon be reduced to. If the nations refuse to not only help each other but also fix internal pollution, there will be no money, no status, and no use for the burning of fossil fuels. It is important that people are enlightened to the results of their carelessness. It is very true that one does not realize the luxuries they believe to be entitled to, until it is snatched from them. The developed countries must help healthcare, education, and even employment for the developing countries in order to avoid prolonged stages of industrialization. We must not only worry about the destruction of the resources on Earth, but also the rate of decline due to the exponential growth of human population.
